Other FAQs
I don't see any options for movie or meal even if I select long distance flight. Do I have to do something special to activate all menu items?
* In general these announcements are triggered automatically. However there is an option to play the meal and movie announcements manually. This option is only available in flight. After take off wait for the captain welcome announcement. After this announcement is done give it a moment and the manual meal and movie menu should be available in your commercial flight setup.

After takeoff I can not hear any sounds of serving meals and movie
* if you want to hear the meal and movie announcements you must follow these roles:
  1. Be sure you selected in the Airliners Env main setup menu "Long distance Flight". This menu was added to avoid meal & movie announcements on short distance flight longer that 45 minutes.
  2. The first meal announcements will happen approximately 45 after the captain welcome announcement when you reached your cruising altitude.
  3. There will be no meal & movie announcement if you selected "Long distance flight" in your main setup menu but prepare landing in within 45 minutes after the captain welcome announcement when you reached your cruising altitude.
  4. If you select "Short distance flight" in the main setup menu you should hear 5 minutes after the captain welcome announcement a "serving snack announcement". Movies will not be shown.
  5. There will no meal be served while you are descending or the fasten seat belt sign is turned on. I would recommend to turn the auto pilot on and keep the aircraft on a permanent cruising altitude.
  6. There is also an option to do meal and movie announcements manually. To do so enter your Commercial Flight menu and change the meal & movie announcements from "Automatic" to the announcement you want to play. This menu might be only available if you in flight and fasten seat belt signs are not switched on.
After takeoff, have not heard flight attendant tell passengers they are free to move about.
* You will hear the announcements if your flight altitude is stable. Mostly when you enable the autopilot and set an altitude on the autopilot.

I Don't hear captain tell flight attendant to prepare for takeoff.
* You will hear the captain tell the flight attendants to prepare for take off, if you:

1. taxi from the gate to the runway
2. set you flaps
3.are stopping for longer than 5 seconds or
so

When I play, I hear only the captain's voice. I can't hear the flight crew serving the meal or sound from the movie. How can I solve that problem and is there a manual mode ?
* Using the Airliners Env - Commercial Flight menu you can use the manual mode to initiate fasten seatbelt announcement for turbulence, the landing announcements and meal and movie announcements. However if you start from the airport and you can hear the captain's voice the flight attendant should be there as well. The first time you can hear the flight attendant is when you taxi
to the runway. Do not taxi too fast otherwise the programs thinks you are already taking of.
After take off, you have to set the flaps to completely up, be above 7000 feet and your vertical speed should be below than 300. Shortly after that you should hear the flight attendant welcome the passengers.
On landing, you need to set the flaps to hear the flight attendant.

How do I start the flight from another city?
* Once you have started the program, the SFO gate can be changed as your primary position. Whether your are at another airport or in flight, just choose "Flights/Save Flights/Your Flight Name." Input any name to save the flight, and you can continue your flight, including flight attendant announcements, at any later time. To load a previously saved flight, including flight attendant announcements, open "Select a Flight\choose a category\My saved flights\your saved flight" from Flight Simulator 2004 menu.
IMPORTANT: There is a bug in FS2004 but there is a way to work around:
  1. The very first time open Airliners Env from your Flight/others/Airliners Env menu
  2. Save your flight in the menu “Flights/Save Flight…”
  3. Select any name you want (i.e. “my airliners”)
  4. Now the important part you need to set the flight’s property to read-only:
    1. go into your “My Documents/Flight Simulator Files” directory.
    2. You will find a file named “my airliners.ABL” as you named your saved flight
    3. You need to change the properties of “my airliners.ABL” to read-only
    4. Do a right click on “my airliners.ABL”
    5. Select “properties” in the window that is popping up
    6. A new window will pop up
    7. Select in the lower part at attributes “read-only”
    8. Press ok
  5. That’s it. Now you can do your own created flight with Airliners Env and save it as often as you want. It is very important, that you save your flight every time with the same name as “my airliners”
  6. If you choose any other name to create more than one flight with Airliners Env
you must set this flights attribute to read-only as described at 4.

I get a 737-400 Aircraft initialization failure after I start Airliners Environment and it puts me in the default Cessna 172.
* It might happen if you do changes to the airplanes by installing updates from other parties. If Airliners Env is still running please select the airplane you want to use and save the flight.
Start the program by selecting your saved flight from the "My flights" menu.
Always start the program from your saved flight. If you still experience the same problem, please contact the program developer.

How do I get more Airline names?
* There are no more airline names. You can only choose those airline companies which are provided in the flight configuration menu.

I installed the software as you requested in the online manual, but I can't find the flight on the "select a flight".
* It looks like you didn't install the program into the right directory. You can find that out by looking in your "Flight Simulator 9/Flights/other/" directory. Is there a file with a name "airliners_env_main.abll"?
If not, you installed the program into the wrong directory. To solve the problem:
1. Uninstall the Airliners Env
2. reinstall Airliners Env. During the installation process there is an installation directory suggested:
C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9. This is only a suggestion and might be different especially if you use a different version than English. Be sure that the target directory is the one where you installed your flight simulator program. Use the browse button in the menu to determine your installation directory.

The voice of the captain is too low, I can't even hear it. It's like a whisper.
* In the Flight Simulator Menu go to Options/Settings/Sound. Here you will find different Volume Levels. Please increase the volume level "Lessons/Flight" or decrease the engine volume level
until the engine sound is low enough to hear the announcement.

I have FS2002 installed on my machine. What version of Airliners Env do I have to install 4.4 or 2004?
* You need Airliners Env version 4.4 for FS2002. If you later update to Flight simulator 2004 all updates of Airliners Env are free. That means you will get Airlines Env - Commercial Flight for free.

The announcements work for SFO but when I add a flight into the the save flight category then the announcements do not work
*

Please save the flight as described:

  1. You select the flight from the menu "others" and the program with the announcement will load with the welcome screen
  2. Don't close the flight…, just save it as whatever you want by pressing ";". After saving the flight the announcement program will continue working
  3. Load your flight from the menu "my flight"… and the flight loads with the announcement program.

Where can I get the updates?
* Airliners Env 2004 comes with an update function. Click the start button from windows operating system and select Airliners Env / Your Program module. You will find there "Check for new updates" you can click to install the latest update if available. The Update function is NOT available for Demo versions of this product.
However there is a currently a manual updated Airliners Env - Engine 1.1 (beta) available to enable prop aircrafts at the support page.

I am able to change the airliners name by using CTRL+[.But unable to get "Board the Passengers to work by pressing CTRL+] , there is no sound at all. Any idea's why CTRL+] will not work.
* In the Flight Simulator Menu go to Options/Settings/Sound. Here you will find different Volume Levels. Please increase the volume level "Lessons/Flight" or decrease the engine volume level
until the engine sound is low enough to hear the announcement.

I saved my flight but when I try to load it flight simulator just crashes

My keyboard layout is not english. How can I control the "Ctrl+[" and "ctrl+]" commands?
*

During the installation routine select custom and then your language provided from the menu. This will install the right key translation into your Airliners Env menu

However these key combinations are currently know for the following countries:
•  For German keyboards use : “ STRG + ß " and " STRG + ´ "
•  For Denmark keyboards use “ Ctrl + ` ” and “ Ctrl + å
• For French keyboard use: "Ctrl + ]" and "Ctrl + ¨ "
• For Mexican keyboard use: "Ctrl + i" and "Ctrl + ´ "
• For Portuguese keyboard use: "Ctrl + '" and "Ctrl + « "

Other countries try this: Open the file Flight simulator 9/messages/comm./lesson 1.msg in any text editor.
1. Look for the line starting "s4" behind the equal sign there is a description to press a button combination this is equal to CTRL+].
2. Look for the line staring with "s91". Behind the equal sign there is a description to press a button combination this is equal to CTRL+[.

Someone found this solution:
It seems that when I installed different types of aircrafts, the fs9.cfg file had been modified. When I installed my latest aircraft, I was called to modify my fs9.cfg so that the new aircraft would work. I added the following lines to my fs9.cfg file:

[OldModules]
FSSound.dll=1
FSUIPC.dll=1

You can find your fs9.cfg file, using the Windows Explorer. Here is where to search.

Microsoft Windows 95 or 98
Go to the following directory: Drive_Letter:/WindowsApplicationData/Microsoft/FS9

Microsoft Windows XP
Go to the following directory:
Drive_Letter:/Documents and Settings/Your_User_Name/ApplicationData/Microsoft/FS9

From that point the program works.

The city I approach is not in the landing announcement.
* Airliners Env can only recognize major cities. There is a list of those cities in the Airliners Env - Cabin Music manual.

Can I use IFR and Airliners Env at the same time?
* Yes.
1. Create a flight plan you want to use with IFR
2. Load airliners Env or your saved flight with Airliners Env
3. In the flight planner menu choose your flight plan.

On landing I always hear that the lights in the cabins can be switched on for reading. Even if it is day time
* This announcement is related to your panel setting. If your the panel light is switched on (pretending it is dark outside) you will hear this announcement described above. Turn the panel light off and you will not hear this additional announcement for landing.

When I run the adventure, all my trees look horrible. There is hardly any graphics, very little scenery and it looks like FS98! When I end the flight, and load another flight (not using the Airliners env) everything looks good again.
* Fix the problem by ending the adventure, starting a regular flight, then ending that flight, starting the adventure again, positioning your plane where needed, and then going into the weather and changing it to live weather updates (apparently the adventure sets some things with weather ). I then save this as your default flight and things seem to be working ok now.
In order to get it working, you just load the adventure, and then move your plane to your starting airport, load a new plane, and you are ready to go.

When I run the Airliners Env and switch to a prop aircraft a message pops up and says that Airliners Env can be only used for jet aircrafts. Is there any way to use Airliners Env with prop aircrafts?
* In the release of Airliners Env - Engine 1.1 or higher you will be able to use prop planes. Airliners Env - Engine 1.1 which comes with the latest of any Airliners Env product.

After I updated my Airliners Env it says it can't find the file when I start the saved flight
* To solve this problem you may have to delete your saved airliners Env flights. To do so go to your directory c:/Documents and Settings/your username/My Documents/Flight Simulator Files/ and delete the files:
My Airliners Env Flight.ABL
My Airliners Env Flight.FLT
My Airliners Env Flight.WX

You may also delete any other file in the same directory that says setting with "Airliners Env"
Airliners Env 6.1 was running well for a few days. Now when I run FS2004 I get a message that Airline Env is corrupted. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times.
* This is what you need to do:
1. Uninstall all Airliners Env programs
2. Go into your sf9/script directory
3. Delete the folder “airliners_env” with all sub directories
4. Do to your Documents and settings/ your name/ My Documents/Flight Simulator Files directory
5. Delete all files with the name “My Airliners Env Flight.*” e.g. “My Airliners Env Flight.ABL”, My Airliners Env Flight.FLT and My Airliners Env Flight.WX
6. Reinstall the program

It should work now.
